INFRASENSE, Inc. Consulting Services
Clients consult with us to design and implement customized test programs
for a variety of information needs. Examples include:
Identification of “silica fume balls” in
newly constructed bridge deck for FHWA
Client needed to know how extensive the problem was. INFRASENSE, Inc. teamed with Radar
Solutions International to design a test program using both high-frequency 2.6 GHz antennas and
confirmation coring, with data analysis using “time/depth” slices to identify the presence of these
anomalies. Results showed that the problem was limited and no additional work was required.
Determination of structural properties of a prestressed girder bridge for a
Massachusetts highway
Client was a consultant who needed to rate the load capacity of a pre-stressed girder bridge but no
structural plans were available. INFRASENSE, Inc. designed a test program combining GPR and
Impact-Echo to determine the location and depth of reinforcing steel and prestressing strands, to
determine the cross-section properties of the girders, and to locate and determine the thickness of
internal diaphragms.
Leak detection of major aqueduct for Massachusetts Water Resources Authority
Client needed to know where the aqueduct was leaking, how severe the leaks were, and why they
were occurring. INFRASENSE, Inc. designed a test program combining aerial infrared scanning,
ground-based multi-frequency GPR, and impact-echo testing on the exposed aqueduct structure.
The project was give the “Grand Conceptor” award from the American Consulting Engineering
Council (ACEC). See Hultman Aqueduct.
GPR evaluation study for the South Dakota DOT
Client wanted an independent study of the capability of GPR for pavement, bridge deck, and
geotechnical applications. INFRASENSE, Inc. worked with the DOT to design a test program, and to
gather ground truth data to confirm GPR measurements. The results were documented in a South
Dakota DOT report, which has served as a guideline for future use of the technology.
